Devils and Dust and Long Walk Home

For reasons which I hope to blog about soon I was reminded of the following two tracks which serve as a reminder of Springsteen's songwriting genius (in my opinion of course):

So for no particular reason other than sadly still very relevant:

New Springsteen ep American Beauty

You may have been lucky enough to snatch one on RSD 2014 (or pay over the odds on eBay). No matter - this is worth the price of admission for Hey Blue Eyes alone. Bruce seems to have been one of the few social commentators on the Bush Jr era and I often wonder why that is. To quote the artist “Hey Blue Eyes” rounds out the EP with one of my darkest political songs. Written during the Bush years, it’s a metaphor for the house of horrors our government’s actions created in the years following the invasion of Iraq. At its center is the repressed sexuality and abuse of power that characterized Abu Ghraib prison. I feel this is a shadow we as a country have yet to emerge"

You can download the ep at iTunes.

Bruce Springsteen - My Fathers House

The quality of the video is terrible, the quality of the intro and performance are legendary.

If Bruce Is Good Enoough for Strummer!!

From the Guardian:

"In the mid-90s, Strummer was asked for his thoughts on Springsteen for a TV project. The answer came in the form of the fax revealed here: "Bruce is great ... if you don't agree with that, you're a pretentious Martian from Venus"! The respect was mutual; Springsteen was quick to pay tribute when Strummer died in December 2002 , describing him as "one of the greatest rockers of all time" .

Whats is nice about the wee note is that the block printing Joe uses is exactly the same as the lyric insert on London Calling.

Springsteen Performs Fade Away In Stockholm

Amazing performance if you consider that this is unrehearsed and had not been played by the E Street band since 1981. Ropey quality and Bruce needs to work ion the intro!
