Danny and The Champions of The World

I have been enjoying this album very much. Although this is a new band I am reasonably familiar with the lead singer / guitarist / songwriter Danny George Wilson through his previous work in Grand Drive (who are also work checking out).

Mary Chapin Carpenter - The Age of Miracles

I have found it really hard to get any information on this forthcoming release. Her web site has nothing and I eventually found a wee bit of info on the Rounder website:

"The Age of Miracles is Mary Chapin Carpenter’s third release on Zoe/Rounder Records. Written and recorded over the past three years, The Age of Miracles is a personal exploration of regret and resilience from the world-renowned singer-songwriter as a well as larger, more universal expression of wonder at the times we are living in. The record features an incredible line-up of musicians, including longtime collaborator Matt Rollings (piano, B-3 organ) as well as Russ Kunkel (drums), Duke Levine (electric and acoustic guitar) and Glenn Worf (bass). Also featured on the album are guest vocals from Vince Gill and Alison Krauss. "

Released on 10 May 2010 according to Amazon and from the previews another solid album from MCC!

Band Of Horses

The forthcoming Band Of Horses Cd is creating a lot of interest and they had a great performance on later tonight. There are a couple of preview tracks on their web page

Vic Galloway Show - Call To Mind Session

This is a new band and describe themselves as indie / progressive / experimental. So not the type of thing you normally expect on this page but I thought they were excellent.

Great news that on 4th May Josh Ritter releases a new album. This is his 5th album and promises to be a cracker if the sound of the material previewed in his support slot for Ray Lamontange is anything to go by. It would appear it is the ususal band

The Who's Performance at Superbowl

Well it seemed like a very very quick blast through the selection of hits, I think as their songs are longer than most it seemed all the more rushed. It was great to see the band back on stage again and the line up as far as I could tell was the same as the Endless Wire tour.

The stage set up and lighting were absolutely fantastic - but ultimately I don't think it really came off for them as well as they would hope, but having said that the reviews in the US press were pretty positive across the board.

Continuing the trend of big rock acts for the superbowl half time performance this time round it is The Who on 7th February 2010, sadly no news of additional dates or new material to go with the performance....

David Byrne - Strange new album

As you may have seen I am a huge fan of David Byrne and Brian Eno's album Everything That Happens Will Happen Today......his follow up album is scheduled for release in February and sounds very strange indeed. A collaboration with Fatboy Slim it is a collection of songs about Imelda Marcos!!

Steve Earle - Glasgow Royal Concert Hall

Almost out of gigs for 2009 and this was one of the good ones. Steve Earle was resplendant with large beard and nice shiny new teeth! The performance was excellent, solo acoustic, over 2 hours and a great set list mixing the material from Townes with his back catalogue.

Hope Michael does not mind me nicking his photo - as you can see we had great seats!
